About model yachts

There are two pleasures in model yachts: “building a boat (modeler)” and “competing in a competition (competitor).” Both are managed based on “rules.” Some of our members are both modelers and competitors on their own, and some have achieved top-class competition results in Japan with their own boats.

Model sailing as a competitive sport

Figure 1 shows the organizational chart of competitive sailing, with World Sailing (WS) at the top.
The model yacht section at WS is overseen by the International Radio Sailing Association (IRSA). IRSA has the IOM, Marblehead (M), Ten Rater (10R), and A Class classes as international classes for model yachts, and ICA (IOMICA, IMCA, ITCA) has been established for IOM, M, and 10R. A Class does not have an ICA established and is directly managed by IRSA.
In Japan, the Japan Sailing Federation (MNA) is the governing body for sailing competitions in Japan, and is responsible for managing various rules related to sailing competitions, as well as managing and measuring referees and boats.
JMYA is the only organization in Japan registered with IRSA (DNM Delegated National Members), and is certified as a JSAF Club (boat type organization) to hold competitions using RRS and register and manage boats.
