Measuring mechanism

The Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS) requires all boats participating in races to comply with class rules and hold a valid measurement certificate. If the Equipment Rules of Sailing (ERS) apply, certification is to be managed by an official measurer certified by JSAF.
In the case of international classes, the boat must be registered with each class association, and after receiving a hull number and sail number, the boat will be measured by an official measurer. Once the official measurer is satisfied that the boat complies with the class rules, a measurement certificate will be issued. Boats participating in JMYA-sponsored races and international races must hold a measurement certificate.
Domestic classes will also take their own measurements by official measurement staff and will be issued a measurement certificate.
JMYA has five official measurers, so if you have a boat you would like to measure, please contact the chief measurer.
In the one-design class, basically you cannot modify the boat manufactured by the manufacturer. With the exception of the DF class, most commercially available boats have been discontinued and parts are no longer available, so some classes are operating under temporary construction rules.
